Oatey Cup

It's a new season and we're off to a flying start, with 55 entries in the Oatey Cup!

The Oatey Cup is an in-house judged competition, with members showing their best images from over the summer break. This year's winner is Janet Downes with a beautiful high-key shot of a new-born goat, second place goes to Richard Lawrence (proving that sunsets can score in competitions!) and finally third place was taken by Tim Gilbert with a shot of the Milky Way over Rame Head.

Tin Plate Photography

We were very lucky to have been joined by Simon Colgon who specializes in "Tin Plate" photography, this form of photography was one of the earliest ever practiced and originated around 1850.

As well as giving us the history surrounding the early pioneers of photography, Simon was kind enough to perform a live demonstration, even bringing in his own portable darkroom to develop some images at the club!

A Tribute to Peter Levers

This evening we paid tribute to Peter Levers who passed away recently, he was a club member for many years and produced some of the most stunning images within the club.

Peter had a knack for being able to pull incredible details out of images and had an eye for colour and composition that was unsurpassed, he will be truly missed.

Haworth Cup - Nature (print only)

In the club we have 2 natural history competitions, one for printed images and one for DPI.

Natural History is different to the other images in that the there are a lot of rules governing what you can and can't do to an image, if you take an image of an animal in a zoo then you can't clone out any distraction, you are only allowed to use cropping to change the framing.

Congratulation to Helen Moore, James Moore and Richard Squires for taking the honours with these fantastic images!

Saltash Battle

Monday evening saw us taking on Saltash and Ivybridge camera clubs in a fight to the death (ok, perhaps not quite to the death!) in the yearly 3-way club battle!

We have not won this competition for several years and we decided to make extra effort this year and it paid off! The competition is split into 2 parts, projected images and prints.

Projected images were judged first and we came first out of the 3 clubs.

For the printed images, we came second behind Saltash but we still had enough points to take the overall victory!

Brian Price Cup - Winners!

After four rounds we finally get to see who's won overall and it was a tightly run competition with 3 possible winners all competing in the final round.  As was last year, consistency was the key as again the overall winner did not come first in any single round.

Overall first place was Tim Gilbert, second place was Helen Moore and third place was Jan Martin!

Congratulations everyone!
