Rapson Cup 2018
Another fantastic set of images in this years competition with 46 entries, which means a total of 138 images were presented. The judge was looking for a combination of technical merit and artistic impression and how each image stands up, along with how each panel works together.
First place goes to Richard Lawrence for “Young Holly”, second place went to Richard Squires for “The Encounter” and third place was taken by Bina Fellowes for “Who got the joke”… all worthy winners!

Chairman's Cup
This year’s “Chairman’s Cup” theme was set last year as “The Working Farm”, the key part being that the image should show some form of work being performed.
This year’s winner was Helen Moore who took a fantastic shot of a farmer caring for his sheep, second place goes to Tim Gilbert for a long exposure showing a combine harvester at work, and third place was Richard Lawrence with his stunning black and white shot showing the farmers collecting their hay in the dead of night.
Matt Stansfield Night Photography
Tonight we were joined by Matt Stansfield, a local photographer who specializes in astro-photography who entertained the club with his fantastic images, and also lots of helpful information detailing the specific difficulties that you can face when attempting such shots.
Both technical issues and the effort involved in actually getting to locations in the pitch-black were covered and certainly inspired some members of the club who met up for a midnight photo-session the very next day!
Oatey Cup
It's a new season and we're off to a flying start, with 55 entries in the Oatey Cup!
The Oatey Cup is an in-house judged competition, with members showing their best images from over the summer break. This year's winner is Janet Downes with a beautiful high-key shot of a new-born goat, second place goes to Richard Lawrence (proving that sunsets can score in competitions!) and finally third place was taken by Tim Gilbert with a shot of the Milky Way over Rame Head.
Tony Briard Trophy
The final printed competition of the year, judged in-house with one entry per-member... this is the members favourite shot taken in the last 12 months.
Congratulations to Janet for taking first place, second place goes to Richard while third place was taken by Tim.
